Tadano Elevates Jobsite Safety with Leading 1-Ton Capacity Boom Lift for North America

New AS-63HD Delivers Unmatched Stability, Safety, And Best-in-Class Capacity

Tadano, a global leader in lifting solutions, is set to redefine the North American mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) market with the launch of the AS-63HD, a groundbreaking high-capacity boom lift engineered for maximum safety, stability, and efficiency.

Debuting at bauma 2025, the AS-63HD and its maximum 2,200-lb (1-tonne) platform capacity stand apart as the first-of-its-kind in North America, combining the outreach of a boom lift with the vertical lifting power of an RT scissor lift. Designed to tackle high-reach applications with superior platform capacity and stability, this heavy-duty telescopic boom lift, with a platform height of 62 ft 8 in (19.1 m) and maximum horizontal outreach of 37 ft 4 in (11.4 m), significantly reduces common safety risks and productivity bottlenecks.

“We believe the AS-63HD is a disruptive product — one that can do work that a traditional boom or scissor lift cannot do alone,” says Erik Elzinga, Tadano Americas vice president of AWP business development for Pan-America operations. “With its 2,200-lb (1-tonne) capacity and massive platform, it allows contractors to move workers and heavy materials simultaneously, reducing the need for multiple machines on-site.”

A New Standard for Safety and Stability

One of the biggest challenges MEWP operators face is platform overloading and the safety risks and work delays associated with that. “Operators sometimes exceed weight limits, triggering safety shutdowns and service calls,” Elzinga says. “The AS-63HD, with its 2,200-lb (1-tonne) capacity, virtually eliminates that concern. That’s a game-changer for productivity, efficiency, and safety.”

Drawing from its extensive experience in quality crane manufacturing for the design of the AS-63HD, Tadano is uniquely positioned to develop a high-capacity boom lift that not only reduces the potential of both overloading and tip-overs but also delivers performance that operators will appreciate. The model’s rigid crane-inspired mast and four-section synchronized telescoping boom ensure near-zero platform deflection, enhancing stability for occupants. Additionally, no outriggers or stabilizers are required, reducing setup time.

“Tadano has a long legacy of structural and hydraulic engineering expertise from our crane business, and we’ve applied that to this boom lift,” Elzinga says. “It’s not just about strength — it’s about making a machine that feels solid, stable, and intuitive to operate.”

Optimal Control and Maneuverability for Demanding Applications

The AS-63HD’s exclusive automatic 4-motion control allows operators to easily position it in any straight-line direction, and it also offers an exceptional working range with its 360-degree continuous platform rotation, giving occupants superior flexibility to work in overhead areas without moving the chassis.

With its massive platform, measuring 13 ft 9 in x 6 ft 4 in x 3 ft 7 in (4.2 x 1.94 x 1.1 m), the AS-63HD can handle up to 10 occupants or any mix of fewer occupants with heavy tools or materials within the capacity requirements. This makes it ideal for steel erection, pipefitting, glazing, and welding applications, with optional generator installation packages and a 120V AC outlet on the platform.

“The high capacity and significant size of the platform does not have an extension like a scissor lift, meaning operators don’t have to carefully place materials in specific zones.” Elzinga says. “That makes job planning simpler and safer and ultimately speeds up work.”

Powered by a 74.3-hp (55.4 kW) Kubota V3800 engine, the 4WD-unit with solid tires offers gradeability up to 40% with 5-degree tilt control and travel speeds up to 3 mph (4.8 km/h) to traverse job sites. With its combination of boom lift and scissor lift features, the AS-63HD works well on congested sites, such as industrial construction and infrastructure projects, to deliver high utilization and improve ROI.

“This lift isn’t just an incremental improvement — it’s a new way of working,” Elzinga says. “Contractors can complete heavy-duty tasks with fewer machines, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. That’s why we believe it will make a significant impact on the North American market.”

Manufactured in Japan, the AS-63HD’s design ensures long-term durability and reliability for rental fleets and end users alike. Initial availability for the AS-63HD will focus on the U.S. and Canada, starting in the second half of 2025, with expansion into additional markets to follow.

Visitors to bauma can check out the AS-63HD, along with other models in Tadano’s MEWP lineup initially available for the European market, at Booth FS.1205.
