K-Tec Introduces the New 1230 Scraper

The Lightest, Fastest-Loading 30-Yard Scraper in its Class

Rosenort, Manitoba —  The K.A. Equipment Group has announced the release of the K-Tec 1230 pull pan scraper, a major advancement in tractor-drawn scraper design that combines increased capacity with reduced weight and superior field performance. Building on the proven K-Tec 1228 platform, the new 1230 delivers up to 16% higher self-loading productivity and is nearly 10,000 pounds lighter than comparable 30-cubic yard competitors.

Lighter Frame, Heavier Results

The K-Tec 1230 is lighter not by chance, but by design. It is the outcome of thousands of hours of structural refinement and testing. Every component of the scraper was analyzed and optimized using advanced modeling, finite element analysis (FEA), and field validation to deliver maximum strength with minimal weight.

Despite weighing nearly 10,000 pounds less than comparable competitive scrapers, the 1230 retains a 72,000-pound maximum load rating and exceptional torsional rigidity under load. The result is a scraper that floats better, loads faster, and pulls easier, without compromising the structural integrity that has built K-Tec’s history and reputation.

“The 1230 represents a new level of precision in our direct-mount lineup,” said Shaun Eidse, Director of Research & Development. “It’s proof that lighter can still mean stronger when it’s engineered with purpose.”

K-Tec’s design team focused on achieving the perfect balance of efficiency and endurance, utilizing Hardox steels, precision cut components, and an optimized load path through the frame and hitch. It’s this engineering precision — not material reduction — that gives the 1230 its category-leading performance. And like every K-Tec scraper, it’s backed by the company’s industry-leading 3-year structural warranty, a testament to its proven reliability in the field.

Field-Proven Performance

Comprehensive field studies with multiple heavy-civil contractors demonstrate the 1230’s measurable edge in both self-loading and push-loading conditions:

  • In self-loading trials, the 1230 achieved 16% more yards per hour than the 1228 while maintaining the same travel distance and cycle time.
  • When paired with a dozer push assist, the advantage widened further, producing faster cut times and higher average loads per cycle.
  • Even when pulling in train configuration, the 1230 out-performed the 1228 setups by 3-7% in yards moved per hour, despite comparable cycle lengths.

Operators also reported smoother loading in heavy, cohesive soils and cleaner discharge with minimal carry-back — contributing to more consistent fill and a measurable reduction in total cycle time. The 1230’s refined bowl geometry, taller cutting-edge clearance, and optional grader-blade attachments all work together to keep material flowing efficiently without excessive horsepower demand.

Operator-Focused Design

The 1230 continues K-Tec’s focus on creating scrapers that are smooth to operate, simple to maintain, and built for long service life. The scraper’s push-block system has been upgraded to a bolt-on design, making it easier to service or replace after extended wear. Operators can also equip an optional push-roller, providing a smoother interface when working with a dozer or K-Tec Ox Block during push-loading operations.

Another major enhancement is the move from ejector rollers on the previous 1228 to low-maintenance slide blocks on the 1230. This refined design delivers more consistent ejection performance across varying materials while simplifying maintenance and lowering long-term operating costs.

Additionally, larger pins and bushings at the gate and trailing arm pivot points extend wear life and improve control precision under load — helping operators maintain smoother, more consistent cycles throughout the day.

Maintenance has been further streamlined with centralized easy-access grease points and improved hose routing, while positionable offset 23.5 R25 radial tires reduce material build up and improve ride quality and ground contact on varied terrain. The result is a scraper that feels responsive, durable, and engineered for reliable earthmoving production.

Dealer and Export Ready

Beyond its field performance, the 1230 DM’s modular architecture enables containerized global shipping, cutting freight costs and simplifying dealer assembly overseas. The scraper shares many wear parts with larger K-Tec models, streamlining parts stocking and support across the fleet. Like other modular K-Tec models, the bolt together design of the 1230 allows for maximum uptime and easy serviceability.

Built for the Bottom Line

On paper, the K-Tec 1230 offers a modest two-yard increase in heaped capacity (7%) over the well-proven 1228 — but the real story is what happens in the field. Heavy civil contractor testing and side-by-side studies show that the 1230 delivers up to 16% greater productivity, thanks to its refined bowl geometry, faster loading characteristics, and reduced rolling resistance.

That means contractors aren’t just getting a bigger scraper — they’re getting a brilliantly engineered, more efficient machine that moves significantly more material per hour with the same horsepower and operator input. The result is a measurable improvement in cost-per-yard performance and overall project efficiency.

“Every new K-Tec model represents another step forward in how we think about moving dirt,” said Mike Thiessen, Director of Marketing. “The 1230 shows what’s possible when you combine engineering precisionwith real-world operator feedback — it’s purpose-built to perform and built for the next generation of earthmovers.”

Its combination of light weight, structural strength, and proven field performance gives the 1230 the best productivity-to-weight ratios in the industry — redefining what efficiency looks like in a 30-yard direct mount scraper.
